5.10.6 Trailer transportation
The boat's weight for trailer transportation is the boat's dry weight plus the weight
of the engine, battery, fuel, additional equipment, and any luggage. The amount
of bilge water (if any) must also be taken into account. See Appendix 2 (Technical
Information) for the calculated trailer transportation weight.
When lifting your Buster onto a trailer, make sure the trailer is suitable for the boat
and has a sufficient number of support guides to reduce point loads. Make sure that
the load-bearing capacity is sufficient for the boat (including the engine, battery,
equipment and fuel). Your car's registration certificate specifies the maximum
permitted trailer weight.
Remove all excess load and bilge water before lifting the boat onto a trailer. Adjust
the trailer's longside support guides so that the main weight of the boat rests on the
keel support. Lift your boat onto a trailer by the eye on the boat's stem only. The
other mooring points cannot withstand the boat's weight during lifting. Fasten the
boat securely to the trailer before transporting the boat. Make sure the fastening
lines prevent sideways movement as well as movement back and forth. Protect the
boat by inserting a pad between the boat and the fastening lines where necessary.
Also consult the engine manual for further trailer transportation guidelines.
Hint: any water remaining in the bilge can be emptied through the rear plug when
the boat is on the trailer. Remember to attach the rear plug before launching the
boat from the trailer.
NB!
Make sure the trailer is rated for the weight of the boat and that
the towing vehicle can be used to tow the combined weight of
the boat (including equipment) and the trailer. Also make sure
your driver's licence allows you to drive the combination of your
vehicle and the heavy trailer.
NB!
The weight of the trailer should rest slightly on the towing bar.
Ensure that the boat has been fastened sufficiently tightly to the
trailer and that the boat's weight is distributed evenly on the guides.
If the boat rolls from side to side during transportation, it will crash
against individual supports, potentially damaging the hull.
WARNING!
A poorly maintained boat trailer or a trailer with insufficient
load-bearing capacity could break down during transport and
cause a hazard. Ensure that the trailer's load-bearing capacity
is sufficient for the combined weight of the boat, the engine, the
fuel and the equipment.
