Hot-Swapping a PCI Card 

 

CAUTION: 

 

PCI cards are EXTREMELY SENSITIVE to electrostatic discharge. To avoid damage, you 

are advised to wear anti-static gloves, to be grounded, to store PCI cards in antistatic 

packaging, and to hold PCI cards by the edges without touching connectors. 

 

Always populate empty PCI slots with PCI fillers to ensure proper server cooling.. 

 

Only defective components should be hot-swapped. Hot-swapping non-defective 

components may result in server malfunction. 

 

Ensure that all cables connecting the PCI card to the server are disconnected before hot-

swapping. 

1.  Locate the defective PCI card. 

2.  Remove the defective PCI card. See Section C.2.4.2. 

3.  Install the new PCI card. See Section C.2.4.1.
