C.2.3 Installing / Removing / Hot-Swapping a Hard Disk Drive (HDD)
CAUTION:
Hard disk drives are precision instruments. Improper handling may result in hard disk
failure.
Ensure the server is correctly stabilized to avoid tipping while swapping hard disk
drives.
Always create backup copies of data on an auxiliary storage unit.
While swapping components, do not vibrate or impact equipment. Otherwise, failure
may occur in the HDD.
Always populate the HDD tray with a HDD or a dummy HDD to ensure proper server
cooling.
C.2.3.1 Rules for Populating Server HDD Bays
IMPORTANT:
The on-board SAS controller is only connected to 4 HDDs: 0-3. The other 4 HDDs: 4-7
require the installation of a PCI SAS card.
The following table shows the supported connection between HDD Drives 0-7 and the SAS
controller/PCI card.
