A-10 IRAS-24A T1/ISDN Modem Card Installation and Reference Guide
If you plan to wire the site yourself or hire a contractor, local
and national standards for telephone and electrical wiring
must be followed. Bellcore offers an ISDN Wiring and
Powering Guidelines (Residence and Small Business) Version 2
document containing detailed information on the strategies
and standards for in-house wiring.
NOTE:
The Electronic Industries Association (EIA) and
Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) have
established standards for in-house ISDN wiring. Their
recommended minimum wiring is 8-conductor (4 pairs)
unshielded twisted-pair (UTP), Category 3 or higher,
24 gauge.
The critical component of in-house wiring is the wall jack. T1
lines typically use 8-pin modular connectors called RJ-45
jacks. To determine the type of cables and wall jacks that you
require, refer to the documentation supplied with your CSU.
The following figure shows the basic wiring required for
connecting an T1 line.
