brake caliper. The braking force is boosted by a 
speed reduction and applied to the 

brake pads

These apply the 

brake rotor

 mechanically. If the 

brake lever

 is pushed, the 

brake pads

pressed against the 

brake rotor

movement is decelerated until it comes to a stop.
