OpenVPN
OpenVPN is an open source software application that implements
2222
virtual private network (VPN)
techniques for creating secure point-to-point or site-to-site connections in routed or bridged
configurations and remote access facilities. It uses a custom security protocol that utilizes
2222
SSL/TLS
for key exchange. It is capable of traversing network address translation (NAT) and
2222
firewalls.
OpenVPN allows
2222
peers to
2222
authenticate each other using a
2222
pre-shared secret key,
2222
certificates, or
2222
username/
2222
password. When used in a multiclient-server configuration, it allows the server to release
an
2222
authentication certificate for every client, using
2222
signature and
2222
Certificate authority. It uses the
2222
OpenSSL encryption
2222
library extensively, as well as the
2222
SSLv3/TLSv1
2222
protocol, and contains many
security and control features.
OpenVPN is good at portability. OpenVPN has been ported and embedded to several systems.
