5.2 Planification of the drive unit
Plan the drive unit in the return circuit at a location that provides easy access, if
possible in the service room. To make sure that feed is not permanently transported via
the drive unit, no feed discharge point should be installed between the drive unit and
the feed hopper.
Power supply to the drive has to be ensured.
Should the drive units be located outside, make sure to protect the drive units against
weather exposure (direct rain, snow and ice). Operation at temperatures lower than
-20°C are forbidden, if not otherwise agreed on by Big Dutchman.
5.3 Planification of the feed pipe
The feed channel runs in a straight line. It can be deflected in any direction with the
right-angled idler corners (corner 90°). Including 4 idler corners, the system length is a
maximum of 300 m and a maximum of 500 m
*
. Each additional idler corner shortens
the system length by 6 m. Thus you should plan the feed channel with the smallest
possible number of idler corners.
The feed channel gradient affects the conveyor capacity as a result of feed falling
backwards. That is why the feed channel ought to run as flatly as possible. With an
gradient of 45°, the system length is shortened by an additional 0.5 m per m.
Plan the cycle in such a way that the connection with the feed hopper can be
accomplished with a minimum of corners. At a distance of 2.5 m, the feed channel is
supported by suspensions, wall attachments or props.
You avoid the installation of further turns if you plan the drive unit at the
same height as the feed pipe in the house.
Plan for a distance of at least 2 to 3 m in front of and behind the drive
towards the corners.

when the XXL drive is used. A condition for the 500m maximum drive length is that the XXL drive
is used with a smooth start. In addition, strong, fibreglass-reinforced corner wheels must be used
up to 10m before the drive. Pellets must not be used as feed.
In special cases, which should be avoided if possible, a 90° maximum
gradient may be incorporated in the reverse run. In this case, it is essential
to consult Big Dutchman.
