The vast sea has many small and large residents. Among them are the octopus “Calculino“
and the beautiful starfish that shine in three different colours. They love to bask on the buoys
that are everywhere in the sea. Calculino has seen much of the vast ocean, so he knows the
most beautiful places ever for buoys. He has told the starfish a lot about them, and now he
wants to take them there on a visit and bring them home again. He can always carry four
starfish of each colour with his suction cups. Help Calculino to take four blue, four yellow and
four red starfish on board as quickly as possible, so that they can set out on the long journey
through the ocean.
The blue, yellow and red wooden pegs are sorted by colour and placed in the three small
felt baskets. Each player receives a wooden insert board showing the octopus “Calculino“.
The colour dice are also placed ready. The number dice are not required for this game
version. Each player takes six wooden pegs per colour (6x blue, 6x yellow, 6x red) from the
small felt baskets, so that each has the same number of wooden pegs available. All the
players then use these to fill the holes in the bar above the water level on their wooden
board, in any order they wish. It is not allowed to fill all holes of one section 1-6 with only
one colour. The player who has most recently seen an octopus may begin. Play is in a
clockwise direction.
Above the water level there is a perforated bar, divided into three sections with the num-
bers one to six and the images of dice. The buoys emphasise the threefold division, and
simplify the assignment of the dice later on. On the perforated bar, the pips appear exactly
as they do on the dice. Under the bar the corresponding number is written as a figure.
In the water sits the octopus “Calculino“. His tentacles are to be filled in the course of the
game and can accommodate four blue, four yellow and four red wooden pegs.
After the perforated bar has been filled with the required number of wooden pegs, the
game can begin. The first player throws all three colour dice at the same time. Now he can
place one colour dice on each of the three sections.
Then from each section he can take a wooden peg in the colour he has thrown, and can
insert them in the appropriate colour dots on the tentacles of the octopus.
