ONFIGURING THE
CLAM R
OUTER AT THE
R
EMOTE
O
FFICE
.
The following section assumes that the CLAM has not been previously
configured, and boots up in the Default state when power is applied. If at any
stage the stated result does not occur reference should be made to the relevant
sections of either the CLAM Router Reference Manual or the CLAM Router
Installation Guide.
Note the CLAM serial manager port shares the same connector as the local
LAN connection. The LAN and the serial manager can be connected
simultaneously. To enable both devices to share the same connector the
CLAM comes with a 2-way RJ45 adapter plug. A separate RJ45 manager
cable and two adapter plugs (one RJ45 to DB9 and one RJ45 to DB25) are
also supplied with the CLAM.
1. Place the 2 way RJ45 adapter in the LAN/Manager port at the rear of the
unit.
Care should be exercised as the ISDN connector socket, the LAN/Manager
connector socket and the phone socket (if fitted) are all RJ45.
2. Connect a VT100 terminal, or a PC running a communications program
(in the active window if using a MACintosh or a PC running Windows,
Windows95 or Windows NT) that emulates a VT 100 terminal, via a
suitable cable, to one of the sockets of the 2-way RJ45 adapter [which
itself has been inserted into the CLAM serial manager port, as outlined in
step 1) above].
3. Connect the local LAN to the other socket of the 2-way RJ45 adapter.
4. Connect the CLAM to the ISDN S-Interface box supplied by your ISDN
line provider by using the ISDN cable provided with the CLAM.
If the ISDN line provider has supplied the line as a U-Interface then a separate
U to S/T interface converter is required. Refer to the section in the CLAM
Reference Manual.
