SELECTING A MULTIPLEXER
Multiplexers can be connected to the Pyramid system via a number of serial ports found on a Pyramid matrix unit. A
multiplexer can then be used for displaying multiple cameras on a single monitor, or for recording and playback of multiple
cameras to a single VCR tape. The controls to perform these functions are available through the Pyramid 2 Keyboard.
To operate a multiplexer using the Pyramid 2 Keyboard, it must first be selected. To do this, it is necessary to know the
number that was assigned to the multiplexer when the system was installed. This should be available from the site manager.
Once the multiplexer number is known, it can be selected. To do this, follow the steps below:
1. Go to the
VCR/MUX
screen. To do this, press the
VCR/MUX
screen key.
2. Using the number keys, enter the number of the multiplexer that is to be controlled.
3. Press the
MUX
soft-key.
4. The
MUX Control
screen is displayed.

Notes
To be able to view images from a multiplexer, the multiplexer video output lead should be connected directly to a video
input socket on a Pyramid matrix unit. The multiplexer will then be treated like any other video input, and therefore can
be viewed at any monitor location.
Once a multiplexer has been selected, it will remain selected for the rest of the current session or until a different
multiplexer is selected. This means that an operator could use the Pyramid 2 Keyboard to put a multiplexer into decode
mode, and then use the keyboard to control camera and monitor operations, without disturbing the multiplexer. The
procedure for retaining control of a multiplexer is the same as that for retaining control of a VCR, which is explained on
page 24. The only difference is that the
MUX
soft-key would be used rather that the
VCR
soft-key.
The soft-keys on the
Multiplexer Control
screens are designed to be broadly equivalent to the buttons on a multiplexer.
However, with the variation in multiplexer models from manufacturer to manufacturer, they may not match any single
model exactly. For more information, refer to the operating manual for the multiplexer.
SWITCHING BETWEEN A VCR AND MULTIPLEXER PAIR
Quite often, both a multiplexer and a VCR will be selected by an operator and then used as a pair. For this instance, the
keyboard has been designed so that the operator can quickly switch between the controls of each device.
When both a VCR and a multiplexer have been selected, the third screen key becomes a toggle device. When the
VCR
Control
screen is displayed, this screen key is labelled
Last MUX
, and by pressing it, the keyboard will return to the control
screen of the last selected multiplexer. When the
Multiplexer Control
screen is displayed, this screen key is labelled
Last
VCR
, and by pressing it, the keyboard will return to the control screen of the last selected VCR.
