10.3.4 Braille > Standard Braille Tables
The braille you type and read is determined using braille tables. These
tables define which braille dots are used to display a character in braille,
and whether encoding of a character in Unicode is required, as it is for
regular braille.
The 8-dots in a braille cell equate to 256 different combinations. Of the
more than 65,000 characters that could be printed from a computer in
UNICODE, only 256 can be assigned. This means that in different
languages, braille is assigned differently to certain characters and
letters.
For example:
1. English/American Computer Braille has other assignments which
can be found in the braille tables US.b2u and US.u2b. US refers to
the language US English, U refers to Unicode, and B refers to
braille.
2. The Europa.b2u input table interprets input via the braille keyboard
for German-European Braille, and writes the assigned UNICODE
symbol.
3. The Europa.u2b table interprets the UNICODE for the character
encoding and displays the assigned braille character on the braille
display for German-European Braille.
4. The same is true for braille tables of other languages.
From main menu item Settings > Braille, select Standard Braille Tables
to open the dialog. A list will first present the current input tables (i.e.
US.b2u) and output tables (i.e. US.u2b). Move right / left with the
Navistick to select the desired entry.
10.3.5 Braille > Hide and Display Braille Dots 7 and 8
From main menu item Settings > Braille, select Hide Braille Dots 7 and 8
to select whether braille dots 7 and 8 will be displayed or hidden.
