Terminology Used

Baud rate:

Data transfer rate on the PROFIBUS in Bit/s.

Decentralized peripherals (DP):

Components connected to the PLC through PROFIBUS 

are generally referred to as decentralized peripherals. 

Communication is in three classes:

 

– DPV0: Data exchange

 

– DPV1: Changing parameters during operation using 

an object directory.

 

– DPV2: Isochrone mode: Cyclical data acquisition and 

transfer based on synchronous telegrams.
