10 If Malfunctions Occur
WARNING
Improperly performed repairs pose a risk of injury or
damage!
Improper repairs or changes to the guided slide unit
could pose a risk of injury or damage.
O
To repair the guided slide unit, only use the spare
parts and repair kits listed in the product catalog
(see www.aventics.com).
Malfunction
Cause
Remedy
The slide does
not reach the
desired
position.
Pressure low or
absent.
Check the
connected supply
pressure.
Otherwise, check
the seal.
Major leak.
1)
1)
Slight leakage is normal for this type of cylinder.
The seal is dam-
aged. Leakage
due to foreign
bodies in the
compressed air.
Check the seal and
outer sealing strip.
Replace if
necessary.
Available as a
repair kit
(see the product
catalog).
Strong impact
on the cover.
The shock
absorber is
damaged.
Replace the shock
absorber.
Varying pressure.
Check the
connected supply
pressure and make
sure the operating
conditions are
constant.
Poor running.
Oil in the cylinder.
Clean and
lubricate the
cylinder. Check the
oil content of the
compressed air.
Lack of lubrica-
tion, e.g. due to
extreme use.
Replace the piston
seals and lubricate
the cylinder.
Lever too long.
Ensure that the
maximum
permitted lever
length has not
been exceeded.
O
Clean the unit with a slightly moistened cloth. Only use
water and, if necessary, a mild detergent.
Maintenance
Under normal circumstances, the GSU guided slide unit is
maintenance-free.
O
However, observe the maintenance intervals that apply
to the system in which the GSU guided slide unit is
installed. In addition, observe the following points.
Checking the compressed air connections
O
Regularly check the compressed air connections and
compressed air lines for leaks. Replace damaged or
crushed lines.
Water must not enter the inside of the cylinder body!
If water gets in, it will damage the guided slide unit by
destroying the lubricant and the seals. If there is a risk
of standing water, the guided slide unit must be
installed with the outer sealing strip facing downwards.
O
Never hose down the guided slide unit.
O
Always keep the guided slide unit under pressure in
environments containing water and water mist.
O
Make sure that water or water mist cannot enter via
the compressed air connections.
