12. Configuring & Operating the Media Gateway
12.6 Link
Aggregation
in
Avaya G860 Media Gateway
To expand the Ethernet bandwidth of the Avaya G860 Media Gateway TPM system to
the external equipment, you can aggregate several links into one trunk. The Link
Aggregation Control Protocol (LACP) provides a standardized means for exchanging
information between Partner Systems on a link allowing each system to reach
agreement on the identity of the Link Aggregation Group to which the link belongs. As
a result, the user activates/ deactivates the feature without changing the partner
configuration. Link aggregation implemented in the Avaya G860 Media Gateway fully
conforms to the IEEE 802.3ad specification.
Note:
The partner equipment must be set to support link aggregation as well.

To set the Link Aggregation, take these 4 steps:
1.
On the MG Status screen of the EMS (showing a graphic representation of the
Avaya G860 Media Gateway, click the Properties link. The Media Gateway
Parameters Provisioning screen appears.
2.
From the Parameters List, select the Interfaces and VLAN 802.1 p/q tab. The
Interfaces and VLAN 802.1 p/q screen appears.
3.
For
Media Aggregation Enable
, change the value to those 2 or 3 links to be
aggregated together, according to the number of the aggregated links in the
trunk.
Generally the bandwidth calculation in the Avaya G860 Media Gateway TPM
system dictates number of aggregated links for external connectivity of the media
traffic:
•
1 – 3 boards = no need of aggregation
•
3 – 6 boards = 2 aggregated links on ports 20 and 21
•
7 – 8 boards = 3 aggregated links on ports 20, 21 and 22

In addition to the Avaya G860 Media Gateway, you must validate the link
aggregation setup of the partner equipment. Avaya G860 Media Gateway uses
the following link aggregation defaults:
•
LACPDU – Link aggregation Control Protocol, transmission interval is configured
hard coded to Short Timeout (3 sec)
•
Aggregation Actor Administration key is hard-coded to 10, no need to
synchronize it to the other side.
12.7 Setting
DiffServ
Priorities
The Avaya G860 Media Gateway supports up to 5 DiffServ Priority Classes. All of the
supported protocols are mapped within these 5 classes according to packet-loss
impact, acceptable delay and jitter. The user can set the priority per DiffServ class in
the EMS DiffServ Priorities screen.
Using the appropriate table in 'Defining IP Parameters' on page
50
, set the DiffServ
priorities.
