Troubleshooting
9.5.1
Self-test functionalities
The EcoAlpa Control Unit offers basic self-test functions that enable:
monitoring of communication lines and detection of line breaks,
verification of connections with the 12V valve and the ZMZ module with detection of the following
faults:
• breaks on the control line designed to close the valve,
• breaks on the control line designed to connect the ZMZ module,
• failure /disconnection of the backup battery within the ZMZ module (the defect is indicated
while the test to close the valve is executed).
9.5.2
Test of valve operation and battery soundness
The control unit makes it possible to check reliability of the shutoff valve actuation and verify sound
condition of the backup battery. The test is activated by an operator from the level of the control unit. Prior
to run a test it is mandatory to make sure that temporary break of gas supply is possible at the moment
(obey the operation procedures for the specific gas system). To start the test follow the procedure below:
depress the TEST button and hold it for about five seconds. The indicator TEST REQUIRED should
permanently go on,
check whether the valve is closed,
check whether the LED indicator BATTERY FAILURE is off,
open the valve.
If any irregularity in the shutoff procedure of the valve please contact the manufacturer of a defective
device or a service company.
The valve test also checks whether the backup battery is in sound condition – if the LED designated BATTERY
FAILURE goes on, the battery is defective. To make sure that the battery is really out of order wait several
hours for possible recharging of the battery. Then reset information about the battery defect by depressing
the CLEAR/CONFIRM button for about five seconds and repeat the test. If the BATTERY FAILURE indicator
goes on once again, the battery is out of order and must be replaced.

Scheduled maintenance
Technical condition of the EcoAlpa Control Unit must be checked at regular schedule. The responsibility for
execution of regular tests is within the sole responsibility of the system user. The mandatory supervision of
maintenance of the system must be carried out pursuant to the following program:
daily: operator must check indications of the control unit,
one per three months – upon the TEST REQUIRED indicator goes on:
• run a test of valve shutoff (see Section 9.5.2). It makes possible to make sure that both the
valve and the backup battery are in sound condition. That test is extremely important for ball
or flap valves. Periodical actuation of the valve moving parts prevents from jamming of them in
the open position and removes contaminations accumulated on working surfaces of valves,
• check all interconnection, make sure that cables and conductors are free of mechanical
damage,
• check visually the valve condition (mechanical wear, damage, corrosion).
