Question:How do I set the burst transfer rate for SCSI devices?
Answer: The maximum synchronous transfer rate is set in the SmartSCSI
Utility Interface. By pressing <Ctrl><I> at system bootup, you
can go into the SmartSCSI Ulility, click on Device Setup and
follow the onscreen options to select the desired transfer rate.
Question:Is it necessary that the last SCSI device on the cable is termi-
nated?
Answer: Yes. Improper termination on the host adapter or SCSI bus seg-
ment may cause the card not to initialize and the driver may fail
to load.
Question:On boot-up the message “SCSI BIOS Installed” is displayed, but
my system hangs.
Answer: Verify that the CMOS interrupt structure is set to INTA and the
CMOS IRQ level matches the jumper settings on the mother-
board. Refer to your PC user manual.
Question:On boot-up I get a message “Missing Operating System”, dis-
played. The boot drive is greater than 1 gigabyte.
Answer: Verify the “DOS SPACE> 1 GB” is enabled in the PCI-SIU2
SmartSCSI Setup Utility.
B: DOS Space > 1GB
The default disk head mapping for ASUS SCSI host adapter is 255 heads and
63 sectors. This translates to a maximum accessible capacity of 8 GBytes per
drive under MS-DOS.
WARNING:
If you have already installed the operating system on
your hard drives, changing the head mapping will cor-
rupt your files and cause other unexpected problems.
Before changing any “DOS Space > 1GB” option set-
ting, please back up your disk drives. Then you should
run the FDISK utility to delete all the partitions on
your selected disk drive. At this point you can switch
the setting, reinstall the operating system, and restore
your backed up files.
All device drivers for the PCI-SIU2 will support different head mappings based
on the setting of “DOS Space > 1GB” option.
