5. Install the coolant hose onto the crankcase union and
tighten the clamp.

NOTE: Steps 1-5 in the preceding sub-section must
precede this procedure.
6. Place the chain guide into the cylinder.

7. Place a new head gasket into position on the cylinder.
Place the alignment pins into position; then place the
head assembly into position on the cylinder while
guiding the cam chain through the cylinder head.

8. Apply a light coat of grease to the cylinder head cap
screw threads and washers; then install the cap screws.
Tighten only until snug.

9. Loosely install the five cylinder head nuts.
10. In a crisscross pattern, tighten the four cylinder head
cap screws (from step 8) initially to 20 ft-lb; then
increase to 30 ft-lb, and finally to 37 ft-lb. Tighten
the 8 mm nut (from step 9) to 21 ft-lb; then using a
crisscross pattern, tighten the 6 mm nuts (from step
9) to 8.5 ft-lb. Tighten the two cylinder-to-crankcase
nuts (from step 4) to 8 ft-lb.
NOTE: If both cylinders have been removed, repeat
steps 1-10 for the remaining cylinder.
11. With the timing inspection plug removed and the front
chain held tight, rotate the crankshaft until the front
piston is at TDC indicated by timing mark F.

12. With the alignment pin installed in the front camshaft,
loosely place the cam sprocket (with the recessed side
facing the cam shaft lobes) onto the camshaft. At this
point, do not “seat” the sprocket onto the shaft.

CAUTION
Care should be taken that the bottom of the chain guide
is secured in the crankcase boss.
