Providing a precharging circuit with the VECTOPOWER VP5000-
DC/DC60
The VECTOPOWER VP5000-DC/DC60 has no integrated precharging circuit.
Depending on the application, a precharging circuit may be required at the [] or [DC+]
connections. If the external precharging circuit is to be controlled by the VECTOPOWER, a voltage
measurement must be implemented with [ST4].
Check whether your application requires a precharging circuit.
Precharging circuit at []
When used as a boost converter, a precharging circuit is necessary at the [] connection if
the voltage source immediately supplies the full voltage. This is the case, for example, with a
connected battery if it does not have its own integrated precharging circuit. If the voltage source
slowly increases the voltage, a precharging circuit may not be necessary. This is the case, for
example, when starting a generator.
When used as a boost converter without a precharging circuit, an uncontrolled current flow can
occur during starting. This current flow distorts the results of the offset calibration. The offset
calibration is performed at startup as long as no enable signal is given via [ST1] pin 3. The
uncontrolled current flow damages the VECTOPOWER and reduces the service life of the device.
The connected components can also be damaged.
If a precharging circuit is only required for precharging, it is sufficient to set it up at [].
This is shown dark in the illustration.
If your application requires an all-pole disconnection (e.g. when connecting a battery), it is
advisable to connect the precharging circuit to both [] and [OUTPUT-] connections. This
is shown light in the illustration.
Maintain the correct order:
1.
Give an enable signal via [ST1] pin 3. The offset calibration is completed.
2.
Close the precharging contactor (A).
Follow the instructions and connection diagrams for connecting an external precharging circuit in
chapter 3.8.5 Product description, Design of the connections, [ST2] and [ST4] connections for an
external precharging circuit for VECTOPOWER VP5000-DC/DC60.
