the valve seat and the valve face are in con-

tact.

4. With a gauge, measure the valve seat width.

If the measurement is not within the speci-

fied values, lap the valve face and observe

the following instructions.

Valve seat width:

Inlet: 1.00 / 1.20 mm (0.0394 / 0.0472 in).

Outlet: 1.00 / 1.20 mm (0.0394 / 0.0472 in).

Lap the valve face and the valve seat,

observing the following instructions.

CAUTION

AFTER REPLACING THE HEAD OR THE VALVE AND THE
VALVE GUIDE, LAP THE VALVE SEAT AND FACE.

1. Use a coarse abrasive grain for lapping the

valve face (G).

make sure that the lapping

abrasive does not get into the opening

between the stem and the valve guide.

2. Apply lubricating oil containing molybdenum

disulphide on the valve stem.

3. Fit the valve to the cylinder head.

4. Turn the valve until the valve face and the

valve seat are evenly lapped, then wipe off

any trace of lapping abrasive.

To obtain

better lapping results, tap the valve seat

while it is turned forwards and back-

wards between the hands.

5. Use a fine abrasive grain for lapping the

valve face and repeat steps 2, 3 and 4.

6. After every lapping operation, make sure to

remove any trace of lapping abrasive from

the valve face and seat.

7. Apply (Dykem) Prussian blue on the valve

face.

8. Fit the valve to the cylinder head.

9. Press the valve through the valve guide and

on its seat in order to leave a clear mark.
