Bi-directional Traffic and Smart Use of Passage Modes (cont.)
Bi-directional passage modes are generally suitable for low to medium volume applications. Traffic is
generally heavy in only one direction at a time (arriving in the a.m. or leaving in the p.m.) and users
naturally work out a protocol similar to drivers at a four-way stop.
For higher-level traffic applications, and where there are multiple turnstiles at an entry point, faster
throughput can often be achieved by closing one direction of passage on select turnstiles as shown in
[Fig. 8 & Fig. 9].
