Explanation of the S-registers
In this section of the manual, the S registers are discussed. Each register has a particular value.
The factory setting is mentioned in the first line. The registers marked with * are stored in the
permanent memory with AT&W.

Auto answer
Setting of the number of ringing signals before the modem goes on-line.
By default, the auto answer is switched off. Auto answer can for instance be switched
on with SO=1.
N.B. To switch on the modem select option, S0 has to be given the value 102.

Counter number of ringing signals
Counts the number of ringing signals which have come in and places these into the
register. It is possible to register 0-255 signals.
The register is reset when the modem answers the line.

Escape code character
ASCII value of the character with which the escape sequence is indicated.
The default value is 043, which corresponds with the character ‘+’.
If the content of the register exceeds 127, the escape sequence is switched off.

Carriage return character
Gives the ASCII character which is recognized as carriage return.
The carriage return indicates the end of a command line.

Line feed character
Gives the ASCII character which is recognized as line feed.
The line feed follows the carriage return at the end of a command line.

Backspace character
Gives the ASCII character which is recognized as backspace.
A value which exceeds 32, switches off the backspace recognition.

Maximum waiting time dialling tone or blind
dialling
In this register, the value determines the waiting time for the dialling tone after the
modem has gone on-line. If a dialling tone is not recognized, the modem checks
whether blind dialling has been set. The same waiting time is used when the character
‘W’ is included in the telephone number which has to be rung.

Carrier waiting time
This register indicates for how long after dialling a carrier is waited for.
This time is measured in seconds.
