Installing Windows NT with an external CD-ROM drive connected to a
1747-OCIDE1 or -OCIDE25 header
Using
hostsvr
to run the three Windows NT setup floppy disks, you can
do a standard install.
If you have room on the hard drive, consider copying the entire
\i386
subdirectory to the hard drive (
xcopy /s
). This makes the available drivers
more accessible if you ever change your Windows NT setup.
Transferring the i386 directory using a PC Card hard drive
Transferring the i386 directory using a parallel connection (as described in
Step 3 of "Loading MS-DOS and Windows NT with a parallel-port floppy
drive" on page 6-18) can take up to 40 minutes. As an alternative, you can
transfer the i386 directory faster using a PC Card hard drive in a notebook
PC and a 1747-OCIDE1 module in the open controller system.
1. Place your PC Card hard drive in a PCMCIA slot on a notebook PC with
a CD-ROM drive.
2. Copy the entire
\i386
subdirectory from the Windows NT CD-ROM to
the PC Card hard drive.
3. Place the PC Card hard drive in the IDE interface module.
4. Run the WINNT utility (which bypasses the 3 setup disks for installing
Windows NT):
winnt /B /S:c:\i386
/B

/S

5. Follow the installation instructions.
