Chapter
4
Starting the Open Controller
Before You Begin
This chapter describes how the open controller hardware powers up. This
chapter also describes the open controller configurations you can use when
powering-up a system.
While the procedures may be the same for both open controllers, different
BIOS settings are required for the 1747-OCE and 1747-OCF. This chapter
includes the necessary BIOS modifications for both open controllers.
Powering Up an Open
Controller CPU Module
When you power up the open controller, the CONTROLLER and the
SCANNER simultaneously perform power-on self tests (POST). The
CONTROLLER goes through a boot-up process that is similar to that of a
personal computer. If you have a video module, boot-up messages appear
on the screen. The SCANNER indicates which test it is performing by
lighting the user-defined LEDS (LED 1, LED 2, LED 3, and LED 4). Table
4.A describes the SCANNER POST and provides approximate times for
each test.
