Cold start (module option)
9.5.1
Description
The cold start function allows starting a UPS (or UPS module) without the input mains present during
the status UPS total off. The startup will be made directly from the battery power and will remain
running for a limited time.
This function is typically used in applications, where the UPS output voltage is feeding the control
voltage for the input mains facility like motor switches etc. Due to a total blackout situation or during
the first startup application, the remain stored energy in the battery is used to feed the inverter in order
to supply the relevant load used to operate the mains supply facility.
9.5.2
Operation
Before activating the Cold Start feature:
1.
Make sure the protection devices upstream and downstream the UPS are properly operating for
the protection of the UPS itself and the load;
2.
Be aware, that if the mains is not available, the UPS control board is active for 10 minutes only
and the inverter will only run the time set (parameter 79) from battery and after this it will switch off
again.
The procedure to trigger the Cold Start is the following:
1.
Open the Battery Circuit Breaker(s) for at least 60 seconds;
2.
Close again the Battery Circuit Breaker to connect the battery: now the UPS control board is
supplied from the battery and it remains active for 10 minutes max;
3.
Switch on the modules by pressing the two ON/OFF button on the display panel within 10
minutes: in the events logging, the message “Start-Up From Batt” will be recorded;
4.
The UPS starts by taking the energy from the battery and stays in according to the time set by the
user in parameter 79.
NOTE
MAKE SURE THAT THE UPS WAS COMMISSIONED ACCORDING TO THE
, BEFORE USING COLD START FUNCTION.
