Assigning the an IP Address to the Gateway
To assign an IP address to each of the gateway modules use one of the following methods:
ƒ HTTP using a Web browser (see Assigning an IP Address Using HTTP ).
ƒ BootP (see Assigning an IP Address Using BootP ).
ƒ The embedded Command Line Interface (CLI) accessed using RS-232 (if supported) or
Telnet (see
Assigning an IP Address Using the CLI ).
ƒ Dynamic Host Control Protocol (DHCP) (see

Using DHCP ).
Use the ‘Reset’ button at any time to restore the gateway networking parameters to their
factory default values (see
Restoring Networking Parameters to their Initial State ).
Assigning an IP Address Using HTTP
To assign an IP address using HTTP:

Disconnect the gateway from the network and reconnect it to your PC using one of the
following two methods:
ƒ Use a standard Ethernet cable to connect the network interface on your PC to a port
on a network hub / switch. Use a second standard Ethernet cable to connect the
gateway to another port on the same network hub / switch.
ƒ Use an Ethernet cross-over cable to directly connect the network interface on your
PC to the gateway.

Change your PC’s IP address and subnet mask to correspond with the gateway factory
default IP address and subnet mask, shown in
Table 18 . For details on changing the IP
address and subnet mask of your PC, see Windows™ Online Help (Start>Help).

Access the gateway first module’s Embedded Web Server (see Accessing the
Embedded Web Server ).

In the ‘Quick Setup’ screen (shown in Figure 20 ), set the gateway ‘IP Address’, ‘Subnet
Mask’ and ‘Default Gateway IP Address’ fields under ‘IP Configuration’ to correspond
with your network IP settings. If your network doesn’t feature a default gateway, enter a
dummy value in the ‘Default Gateway IP Address’ field.

Click the Reset button and then click OK at the prompt; the gateway applies the changes
and restarts.
Record and retain the IP address and subnet mask you assign the gateway. Do
the same when defining new username or password. If the Embedded Web Server
is unavailable (for example, if you’ve lost your username and password), use the
BootP/TFTP (Trivial File Transfer Protocol) configuration utility to access the
device, ‘reflash’ the load and reset the password (see
