a Virtual LAN. The LAN stations communicate over the VCCs set up by
the ELAN.

Figure 12-4 shows how two such vLANs, for example Engineering and
Finance, might be connected on the ATM network. Each vLAN has a
separate ELAN (ELAN 1 and ELAN 2) which establish the data-direct VCCs
on which members of the vLAN communicate. Figure 12-5 shows how an
ELAN is embedded in a vLAN.
