4.4.2.1 Load Output
When fully charged, the BPS12 delivers a load output of –56 Vdc immediately after it is
disconnected from its ac power source. As the internal batteries discharge, the voltage magnitude
decreases while the supply maintains a constant power output. The discharge rate depends on
the ambient temperature and the current required by the output. When the remaining charge in
the BPS12 reaches the disconnect level below –42 Vdc, the BPS12 disconnects its power from the
load; the three LEDs warns you when the charge level reaches –45 Vdc.
4.4.2.2 Battery Capacity
The total battery capacity is expressed in Ampere-hours (Ah), which measures the period of time
that the device can deliver a unit of current. The battery capacity depends on the discharge rate
and the ambient temperature. A fully charged BPS12, at room temperature, can discharge a
current of 0.6 A for 20 hours, which equals a battery capacity of 12 Ah. However, the same BPS12
can discharge a current of 8 A for only one hour, for a battery capacity of 8 Ah.
You can increase the battery capacity to a maximum of 60 Ah by connecting five BPS12 systems
in parallel, as described in section 6.4 on page 31.
