Encoder Installation
48
025-9567E
The installation of the time clock board involves removing and opening the encoder unit. The
subsection “Inside the Encoder” describes the procedure for opening the Model 25.
CAUTION
BE SURE POWER IS REMOVED
the Model 25 before installing the clock board.
The time clock board (702-9028) plugs into socket J1 of the encoder board (702-0312).
When plugging the board in, be sure that all 15 pins on the clock board find their receptacle
in socket J1. The clock board mounts to the digital board via the two male-female threaded
spacers included with the clock board option. If not already installed, these spacers should
replace the #4 Phillips head screw securing the center of the encoder board and the screw
securing the upper left-hand corner of the encoder board (near socket U1).
The battery cell on the clock board is present to maintain the time/date during power failures.
This battery should last several years if main power to the encoder is fairly reliable.
However, if the encoder is ever removed from service for an extended period (more that a
few days), it is recommended to disable the battery so as to prevent its premature discharge.
The battery is enabled and disabled via jumper JP4 on the clock board (702-9028). In the “A”
position, the battery is enabled. In the “B” position, the battery is disconnected. If the battery
should ever become discharged, it should be replaced with a Matsushita BR2325 3-volt
lithium cell or an equivalent battery.
SOFTWARE UPDATES
The software and formats of the encoder are contained in two 28-pin EPROMs. When new
formats or software changes are added to the encoder, the EPROMs U5 and U7 on the
encoder board (702-0312) must be changed. When the new EPROMs are received from our
factory, they should replace the EPROMs currently in the encoder.
Because the Model 25 Encoder has been on the market for some time, some technicians find
themselves upgrading from much older software versions (for example version 1.7 or 1.8).
Making this upgrade requires a few additional steps. If your Model 25 has an EPROM
installed in U6, you should use the instructions in Appendix B (page 127).
Changing Options/Upgrading Current Software
OBSERVE STATIC DISCHARGE PRECAUTIONS!
1.
Remove power from the encoder. Remove the encoder from the console. Open the
encoder to expose the encoder board (see “DISASSEMBLY AND CIRCUIT
LOCATION” on page 33).
2.
Carefully, and without bending their pins, remove the old 28 pin EPROMs from sockets
U5 and U7of the encoder board (702-0312). These devices may be damaged by static so
avoid touching their pins.
