Attaching the filter
The filter is clamped behind the two metal strips of the filter holder.

NOTE
With the optional filter changer, the filter needs to be selected in the
user software.
Filter material
Different filter materials and different thicknesses are available. The basic
equipment of a CT system consists of aluminum and copper filters. A fil-
ter changer with aluminum, copper, and tin filters is optionally available.
Attenuation of X-rays
X-rays are attenuated by the following parameters:
– Density of the workpiece and atomic number (atomic number Z)
– The higher the density, the higher the attenuation.
– The higher the ordinal number, the higher the attenuation.
– Wall thickness
The thicker the workpiece and the cumulative wall thickness, the
higher the attenuation.
– Voltage and filter
The generated X-ray radiation consists of many different energies,
the so-called “X-ray spectrum”. The voltage and filter influence the
spectrum which strikes the object.
