With the IRT communication the bus cycle begins clock-exactly i.e. with a maximum
permissible tolerance and is again synchronized. Thereby the time-controlled and
synchronous transfer of data is guaranteed.

PROFINET of IEC 61158 has the following properties:

according to their tasks:

This is the PLC with PROFINET connection, in which the PLC program runs.

IO device

IO device
is a distributed I/O field device, which is connected to PROFINET.

The IO device is equal to the slave of PROFIBUS.

IO supervisor

IO supervisor
is an engineering station as e.g. programming unit, PC or HMI
interface for commissioning and diagnostics.
