CHECKING THE TIMING CHAIN, CAMSHAFT
SPROCKETS, AND TIMING CHAIN GUIDES

The following procedure applies to all of the cam-
shaft sprockets and timing chain guides.

1. Check:

timing chain

Damage/stiffness

Replace the timing

chain and camshaft sprockets as a set.

2. Check:

camshaft sprocket
More than 1/4 tooth wear

Replace

the camshaft sprockets and the timing
chain as a set.

1/4 tooth

Correct

Timing chain roller

Camshaft sprocket

3. Check:

timing chain guide (exhaust side)

timing chain guide (intake side)

timing chain guide (top side)
Damage/wear

Replace the defective

part(s).

CHECKING THE TIMING CHAIN TENSIONER

1. Check:

timing chain tensioner
Cracks/damage

Replace.

2. Check:

one-way cam operation
Rough movement

Replace the timing

chain tensioner housing.

3. Check:

cap bolt

copper washer O-ring

New

spring

one-way cam

gasket

New

timing chain tensioner rod
Damage/wear

Replace the defective

part(s).
