Drive shaft and lower case

Installing the shift rod

Install the shift cam

, shift rod

and

plate

, then tighten the bolts

NOTE:

Install the shift cam

with the “UP” mark

facing up.

Installing the drive shaft

Install the forward gear

, pinion

drive shaft

and pinion nut

NOTE:

Install the drive shaft

lifting it up slightly,

and then align its splines with the pinion

Install the shim(s) and new taper roller
bearing outer race.

Do not reuse the bearing, always replace it
with a new one.

NOTE:

Be sure to select the forward gear shim(s) if
the lower case or taper roller bearing is
replaced.

To select the shim(s), refer to page 6-25.

Apply gear oil to the inside and outside of
the taper roller bearing outer race before
installation.
