Chapter 2 - ETHERNET INSTALLATION
2.1 I N T R O D U C T I O N
The XVME-956/401 Ethernet adapter module is a complete network controller compatible with the
Novell NE1000A controller. T h e Ethernet module's small size and low power consumption make it
ideal for use with single board systems embedded in equipment that must communicate with like
equipment or central network servers. The Ethernet module also supports the "thin-wire or thin-cable"
Ethernet cabling standard.
2.2 I N S T A L L A T I O N
The following is an overview of the steps involved in a complete configuration and installation of the
Ethernet controller board:
• P l u g in the boot ROM chip if your application requires it
• V e r i f y or change the jumper settings for IRQ and PROM address selection
• R e c o r d the board's Ethernet address for future reference
• A t t a c h the interface transition cable
• I n s t a l l the Ethernet module to the XVME-956 carrier card
Figure 2-1, on the following page, shows the locations of the jumper groups and connectors on the
Ethernet Module. Table 2-1 summarizes the jumper functions.
