Chapter 1 - Introduction
1.3.1 Installing Type A Module Assembly to the X'VME-956/1 and /12
Type A modules contain a front panel which is mounted directly onto its inter-board connector. Use the
following steps to install a Xycom I/O expansion module. Refer to Figure 1-4, on the previous page.
1. C h o o s e the desired site (either upper or lower) on the card for which to install the Xycom I/O
module. B o t h sites are identical, front panel I / O connections are the only system-level
consideration.
2. R e m o v e the four nylon screws labeled "1", and the two nylon screws labeled "2". Save the screws
for future use. Remove the two screws labeled "3", and then remove the mylar shield, which was
shipped with the XVME-956, and save for future use.
3. I n s t a l l the mylar shield which was shipped with the Xycom I/O module, using the two screws
labeled "3", (these were removed in Step 2). Tighten these screws, securing the mylar shield onto
the standoffs labeled "3". A l l o w the mylar shield to fold open.
4. L a y the XVME-956 down on a rigid flat surface. A l i g n the 956's connectors labeled
P4, P5,
P6
or P7 (on the inter-board connector for the XVME-956/1), and P1, P2, P3 or
P4
(on the inter-
board connector for the XVME-956/12), with the sockets on the Xycom I/O module. Push down
firmly such that the sockets on the Xycom I/O module seats flush with the 956's Inter-board
connector. I t is necessary to ensure that the 956 is lying on a rigid flat surface when applying the
pressure required to seat the Xycom I/O module.
D o not warp or twist
the XVME-956 during
this installation.
5. I n s t a l l two of the screws labeled "1", which are the farthest from the front panel. F o l d the mylar
shield over the solder side of the Xycom I/O module. Install the two screws labeled "2" and the
two labeled "1", which are the closest to the front panel. Pull the mylar shield tightly over the
Xycom I/O module (this is facilitated by the slots in the mylar shield) and tighten the four screws.
