POSTSCRIPT EMULATION
The 4213 laser printer in PostScript language mode
The following is a list of what the 4213 laser printer can do in the
PostScript language mode:
•
Create and position various shapes such as straight lines,
dashed lines, arcs, and curves.
•
Combine text and graphics. Rotate and clip words and
images.
•
Print images that have been scanned from photographs or
created synthetically.
•
Produce documents that contain multiple typeface changes
and different symbol sets.
PostScript, a page description language
PostScript is known as a page description language (PDL), which
is a programming language designed specifically to communicate
the description of practically any printable document from a
computer to a printer that can interpret the programming code
and print the document.
Letting your application do the work
In most cases, there is no need to write PostScript programmes
for describing page structure, fonts and graphics. The PostScript
language code is generated automatically by the application
software you are using. Most word processing, desktop
publishing, spreadsheet and computer graphics programmes are
designed to work with printers, like the 4213 laser printer, that
“speak” page description languages like PostScript. Use your
application programme to lay out a page, set margins, choose a
typeface, print text and generate line art, half-tones and grey-
scaling on the 4213 laser printer. You can take advantage of the
wealth of features available in PostScript language mode without
having to learn the page description language.
