Adjust the LCD Brightness and Contrast settings. For maximum illumination, the top most slide control
on the display should be at the full up position. The bottom slide control on the display should be close to
the midpoint position. Adjust the position of the screen so you are looking directly into it at right angles.
Select a different location for the system shielded from bright light shining directly into the LCD display.
You should also check to be sure the BIOS has been configured for LCD in the Setup utility. To quickly
check whether the WinBook has been configured for the external monitor only, press < Ctrl> < Alt> F10
that will toggle from external monitor to internal display. If this was the problem then you must set the
BIOS correctly by pressing < Ctrl> < Alt> S at the DOS prompt and select system defaults option.
I connected an external monitor but the display still only appears on the LCD.
Check the setting in the
VGA
menu in the BIOS setup program. The
Display Mode
option must be set
as
Both
or
CRT
(support only in monochrome systems) in order to be able to view an external CRT
monitor.
I connected an external monitor but nothing appears on the external monitor even though the BIOS
SETUP setting is correct.
Have you plugged in the power lead from the monitor? Check that the monitor is an analog VGA
compatible model. Digital monitors such as standard monochrome, CGA or EGA models will not work
with the external video outlet on the 486SX/DX-WinBook.[SX/DX 9-5]
PERIPHERAL CONNECTION PROBLEMS
I have connected a mouse to the serial port but it will not work.
Have you checked the configuration in your software. Is the mouse supposed to be on COM1 or COM2?
Are you using a serial mouse. Have you loaded a mouse driver?
I configured my mouse as being on COM2 and it will not work.
The built-in trackball uses COM2. The external serial port must be configured as COM1.
BIOS SETTINGS
I have made modifications in the BIOS setup program and now my system is no longer working
correctly.
Reboot the system and type < Ctrl> < Alt> S when text first appears on the screen. In the setup menu,
select the DEFAULT option to restore the factory-preset configuration that is guaranteed to work.
The system performance seems slower than normal. Why is this?
This can be caused by certain BIOS settings from the Power Management option. Type < Ctrl> < Alt> P
at the DOS prompt and select
Defaults
to restore the factory preset configuration which has been
optimized for battery life, or select the
Disable
function in the Power Management options screen which
turns power management off completely, assuring maximum CPU performance.
