Superphone Input
(SPN-5000; optional)
Module Overview
SPN-5000 input modules are used for telephone call-ins. Each module
can handle two callers; there can be two modules per console for a total of
four callers. Caller signals enter the module from the station hybrid. Each
caller has his own fader, and caller input gain trims are provided at the top
of the module.
“FEED” - This button selects one of three audio sources for the caller
to hear (EXT, MXM1, MXM2). Continually pressing the switch cycles
through the choices. An LED indicates which choice is currently selected.
“FEED FLW” - Feed Follow switch selects 3 possible MXM sources
(EXT, MXM1, MXM2) to follow start and stop buttons. You can select
which combination of the 3 possible sources the callers will hear indepen-
dently for both the ON and OFF states using internal dipswitches SW2 and
SW3. For instance, you can setup the module so the callers hear the EXT
input and the MXM 1 bus with the module OFF. Then when the module
is turned ON (ON AIR), the callers can hear MXM 1 and MXM 2 (FEED
LEDs change with START/STOP button push). Activating “FEED FLW”,
defeats the “FEED” button function. After “FEED FLW” is turned off the
source selected by the “FEED” button is active once again.
“LINK” - Caller Link switch links two SPN-5000 modules to allow
four caller operations (module one - callers 1 and 2, module two - callers
3 and 4). In this mode, four callers can conference ON or OFF Air. The
linked audio signals are POST-FADER/PRE-ON. Only one button needs
to be pressed, both LINK switches go on/off simultaneously.
“ASSIGN” - Bus-assign switches assign callers to any combination of
the console’s four stereo outputs: PGM (program), AUD (audition), AUX
(auxiliary) and/or UTL (utility). When the module is assigned to PGM and
turned ON, a red “On-Air” LED illuminates just above the output assign
switches.
“CALLERS” - ANSWER CUE/TB and DROP switches provide a way
to talk to callers off-air. Logic outputs from these switches can interface
with an external hybrid for ANSWER and DROP control from the SPN-
5000 module.
