1 Open the volume sidebar, then click the stop button to stop the
counts.

Once there is a large gap in the traffic in lane 1, click the play
button. This will restart the counts at 0.

Count vehicles in lane 1 manually until there is another large
gap in the traffic.
4 Click the pause button. Now you know the volume counts in the
sidebar precisely reflect the traffic that passed between those
two gaps, and you don’t have to hurry to compare your counts
before another vehicle passes and messes it up.
Verifying lanes using per vehicle data

1 Set up a way to observe on-road traffic: seat yourself in a place
where you can see both the road and the computer, or have
someone else observe traffic for you while you monitor your
computer.
2 Click on the paper icon to open the Per Vehicle Data screen.
This will open in a full-sized screen that covers the Lane Ver-
ification screen, but you can drag it to the side if you want to
observe both at once.

Compare the information on this screen with what’s being
detected on the roadway. It’s easiest to do this one lane at a
time. For instance, you could use a radar gun to track speeds
of vehicles in lane 1, and check on this screen to see if the sen-
sor’s detected speeds match the actual vehicle’s speeds. If they
