Although measured values are output for the effective power of L1 and effective power of L3, as well
as reactive power of L1 and reactive power of L3, they have no metrological meaning taken
individually. To determine the total effective power, it is necessary to sum the measured values for
the effective power of L1 and effective power of L3, and to determine the total reactive power, it is
necessary to sum the measured values for reactive power of L1 and reactive power of L3.

The I/O module uses the 3-wattmeter method for measurement. On the basis of this measurement
method, the I/O module always determines the measured quantities for an equivalent wye load,
regardless of the load type of the wiring (wye or delta load). The measured values of the individual
phases are correct for a symmetrical wye load. For an asymmetrical wye load, or for a symmetrical
or asymmetrical delta load, the individual measured values of a phase have no significance on their
own. In these cases, only the total power values are correct. The total power values must be
calculated outside the I/O module (e.g., P
total
= P1 + P2 + P3).
