Care
The same care requirement applies to the D3-SOLAS
as is stated in the Operator’s manual for the D3, with
the addition of the following points.
WARNING!
Before performing any work, read
carefully through the chapter “care” in the Opera
-
tor’s manual for the D3. It contains instructions
for correct and safe working procedures.
IMPORTANT!
When both operating hours and
calendar-based service intervals are given, main
-
tenance shall be performed at the interval that
occurs first.
After a dry test run (without seawater):
IMPORTANT!
The impeller in the sea-water
pump is designed to rotate in water. At delivery,
the inside of the pump housing is lubricated to
protect the impeller during the first dry start with
-
out seawater. The impeller will be damaged if it
runs dry.
Glycerin should be used as a lubricant with dry
test runs.
The impeller will be damaged if other types of
lubricant than glycerin are used.
•
Check the impeller (see figure) after dry test runs
and starts have been performed for more than
totally:
- 30 minutes (applies if the pump housing is lu
-
bricated with glycerin)
- 5 minutes (applies if the pump housing is not
lubricated with glycerin)
If the impeller is cracked or damaged it must be
replaced. See instructions for replacement of im
-
peller in the Operator’s manual for the D3.
Every 200th hour / At least once per year:
•
Check the belt tension and condition. See in
-
structions in the D3 Operator’s manual.
•
Check the condition of the hose connections on
the ball valve.
•
Check the condition and the function of the gradi
-
ent relay and ball valve, as well as their wiring,
connectors and terminations. The function of the
inclination relay is checked by inverting it. The
engine should stop automatically.
