Test Application Common Settings / Steps
3.1. Antenna Setups
3.1.1.
Direct with Coupler
This is one of the more common test setup methods where the AVX-10K RF I/O port is cabled to a
coupler which is then mounted over or clamped to an antenna. When using this setup, the cable loss as
well as the coupler loss must be considered. These values can be entered in the Setup tab.
3.1.2.
Over the Air
The AVX-10K can also be used to test the onboard equipment using the over-the-air test setup. When
using this setup, the antenna gain, the height of the antenna and the distance from the antenna must be
considered. These values can also be entered in the Setup tab. The antenna gain values can be found on
the label of the antenna.
Caution: Testing over-the-air with ADS-B transponder turned on can cause interference
with ATC and nearby aircraft. Utilize antenna couples and proper shielding where
applicable and refer to SAFO 17002 and follow proper procedures to avoid.
