8.6.3 Option #3 - Raised Base Installation of More Than 4"
When the fireplace is installed on a
raised base of more than 4"

non-combustible floor protection of at
least 16"

with no R factor must be
installed in front of the fireplace.
The upper and lower angle, for the
full width of the floor protection, must
be protected by 2" horizontally and
vertically by a folded and continuous
metal sheet
(D = 2" [51 mm])
(not supplied). The sheet metal does
not have to cover the rest of the wall
between the base of the fireplace and
the floor.
A clearance of 80" (2.03 m)

between the base of the fireplace and
the ceiling must be respected.

Regardless of the installation type, there must be at least 8" (203 mm) on each side of the
fireplace door opening

Floor protection must be a continuous
noncombustible surface such as ceramic, concrete
board, brick or other equivalent material approved
as floor protection. If the ceramic is used, it must
be placed on a continuous non-combustible panel
to prevent spills from being brought into contact
with the floor through cracks or gaps in the ceramic
slurry. Alternatives approved by the local building
code may also be used.
Do not leave carpets under the floor protection.
