PC Software Option
PC Software Option
A second option offered by V-TEK for use with
the Versacount II+ is a cable and software driver
that can be used to integrate the counter with a
PC to receive count data from the counter.
The software option kit includes a PC to Ver-
sacount II+ serial cable, which is connected to
the RS232 port on the back panel of the counter.
Also included is a USB Drive with the software
driver necessary for the PC to receive the data
sent.
Installation
To install the software option, follow these steps:
1. Install the software driver provided onto the integration PC.
2. Connect the serial cable to the integration PC and the Versacount II+ RS232 serial port.
3. Enable the software option in the Options screen of the counter’s operator interface.
Provided the customer’s software is in place to receive and use the data signal, installation is
then complete.
Versacount II+ to PC Communication
The counter uses a serial baud rate of 19200 bps in an 8-N-1 format (8 data bits, no parity, 1 stop
bit). A NULL modem cable should be used. There is no Xon/Xoff handshaking used and RTS
and CTS are ignored.
The data sent consists of 26 ASCII characters followed by a carriage return and a line feed. The
data fields sent are (in order): Month, Date, Year, Hour, Minute, Parts Count, Empty Pocket
Count. Each data field is separated by a comma. The actual stream of characters will be as fol-
lows:
MM,DD,YYYY,HH,MM,PPPPPP,EE<CR><LF>
The date format is sent in the above order regardless of the counter’s date format setting. Also,
the time is sent in a 24 hour format, not in the 12-hour AM/PM format used by the counter’s clock
display.
For example, an SMD reel was completed at 5:37PM on March 14th 2005 and had 2500 parts
with 2 empty pockets. The ASCII sent to the PC will be:
03,14,2005,17,37,002500,02<CR><LF>
The actual Hex data stream would be:
30 33 2C 31 34 2C 32 30 30 35 2C 31 37 2C 33 37 2C 30 30 32 35 30 30 2C 30 32 0D 0A
