INTRODUCTION
The AP401 is a total coverage field strength meter for terrestrial, cable (CATV) and 1
st
IF
satellite TV bands, which offers the option of including the return channel of 5-65 MHz.
The instrument is also equipped with an optical input for measuring optical signals in fiber-
optic distribution networks.
Some of its main features include:
•
Measurable RF level dynamics: from 20 to 130 dBµV in the terrestrial, CATV and SAT
range, from 40 to 130 dBµV in the HF range (5-65 MHz).
From -20 to +2 dBm (+12 dBm using the 10dB calibrated optical attenuator) for the
wave lengths of 1310nm, 1490nm, 1550nm.

Possibility of taking a large number of measurements. In particular, in addition to classic
analogue signal levels, the instrument also provides the user with the ratio between the
video and audio carriers for terrestrial and CATV bands, the carrier/noise ratio and the
strength of the digital signals, both for terrestrial and satellite.
•
An accurate analysis of digital signals. BER and MER measurements, as well as the
measurement of other important QPSK/8PSK, QAM, COFDM modulation parameters, can
be provided based on the available versions. These digital signals, if free-to-air, may be
viewed by means of the MPEG4/MPEG2 decoder.
•
A 5.7” colour LCD display for viewing TV signals, spectral analyses, horizontal synch
pulses, analogue measurement bars, programming options, the frequency indication, the
channel, the level, the program, the status of the instrument and the menus.
•
Frequency synthesis tuning (PLL) throughout all ranges with double frequency markers.
•
Spectrum analyzer with variable selectivity and frequency span, display of the frequency
on the abscissa (X) and the amplitude on the ordinates (Y).
•
Audio demodulation: AM, FM, intercarriers TV mono, audio satellite subcarriers with
frequency synthesis tuning (PLL) and variable selectivity.
•
Optional noise generator.
•
LNB power supply and control from 5 to 24V, 22 kHz with current consumption monitor.
