STEP NO. 1 – DETERMINE THE FLOOR AREA AND
GROSS VOLUME OF THE ROOM
The floor area is 28.5 ft (8.69 m) x 42 ft (12.80 m) which
equals 1,197 ft

multiplying 1,197 ft

STEP NO. 2 – DETERMINE THE MINIMUM NUMBER OF
ATOMIZERS REQUIRED
The number of atomizers required depends on the floor
area of the room divided by the coverage area allowed for
each atomizer. To determine the rated coverage area based
on ceiling height, divide the rated volume of each atomizer
by the ceiling height.
In this case the rated atomizer volume, 3,673 ft
3
(104 m

),
divided by the ceiling height, 24 ft (7.32 m), will equal an
atomizer rated coverage area of 153.04 ft

) per
atomizer.
The number of atomizers required is 1,197 ft

STEP NO. 3 – VERIFY ATOMIZER ARRAY PLACEMENT
Sketch the locations and verify spacing requirements of all
atomizers using the appropriate array. Additional atomizers
may be required if the spacing limitations are exceeded.
In this example, two different atomizer arrangements are
possible – a 4 x 2 rectangular array or a triangular array
using eight atomizers.
The rectangular array is straight forward and results in an
atomizer spacing length-wise of 10.5 ft (3.20 m) and a wall
spacing length-wise of 5.5 ft (1.6 m). Width-wise, the
atomizer spacing is 14.25 ft (4.34 m) and the wall spacing is
7.13 ft (2.17 m). See Figure 24.

The triangular array requires more calculations. A triangular
array using eight atomizers is the same as the array using
five atomizers with another pattern of three atomizers along
side of it. The first step is to lay out the first pattern of five
atomizers.
