PRESSURE (TAP)
6a – Size Piping and Calculate Pipe Pressure Loss
(PPL) in Supply Line A:
Linear Length A1 through A5 + equivalent lengths of all
fittings in each pipe line x pressure loss (see Table 4) =
Pipe Pressure Loss (PPL).
Example:
3/4 in. Schedule 40 piping:
Length A1, 16.17 ft (4.929 m) + A2, 2 ft (0.610 m) + A3,
3.75 ft (1.143 m) + A4, 12 ft (3.658 m) + A5, 4 ft (1.219
m) = 37.92 ft (11.561 m)
Equivalent length of 3/4 in. tee = 2 ft (0.610 m) (see Table
1)
Note:
Because the full flow is going through one branch
of the tee, treat it the same as an elbow of the same size.
Equivalent length of 3/4 in. selector valve = 66.5 ft.
(20.3 m).
Equivalent length of 3/4 in. elbow = 2 ft (0.610 m) (see
Table 1)
Two elbows in Supply Line A = 2 x 2 ft (0.610 m) (equiva-
lent length per elbow) = 4 ft (1.219 m)
37.92 ft (11.561 m) + 2 ft (0.610 m) + 66.5 ft. (20.3 m) +
4 ft (1.219 m) = 110.42 ft (33.664 m) total equivalent
length of pipe
Select the correct pressure from Table 2 for the number of
atomizers flowing through this pipe section. Since there
are four atomizers, the pressure loss factor would be
0.10027 psi/ft (0.02267 bar/m) (see Table 2).
Pressure loss for Supply line A = 110.42 ft (33.664 m) of
3/4 in. pipe x 0.10027 psi/ft (0.02267 bar/m) = 11.07 psi
(0.763 bar).
6b – Size Piping and Calculate Pipe Pressure Loss
(PPL) in Branch Line B:
Linear length B1 and B2 + equivalent lengths of all fittings
in each pipe line x pressure loss (see Table 2) = Pipe
Pressure Loss (PPL).
Example:
1/2 in. Schedule 40 piping:
Length B1, 9.25 ft (2.819 m) + B2, 6.59 ft (2.009 m) =
15.84 ft (4.828 m)
Equivalent length of 1/2 in. elbow = 1 ft (0.30m) (see
Table 1)
One elbow in Branch Line B = 1 x 1 ft (0.30m) (equivalent
length per elbow) = 1 ft (0.30m)
Equivalent length of 1/2 in. tee = 3 ft (0.91 m) (see Table
1)
One tee in Branch Line B = 1 x 3 ft (0.91 m) (equivalent
length per side tee) = 3 ft (0.91 m)
