Filament Circuit is Open or
Shorted.
EXPECTED VOLTAGE MEASUREMENTS
WHEN OPEN CIRCUIT EXISTS.
1.
Measure voltage from
XC
to
XS
or
XC
to
XL
. With
Prep Switch depressed
voltage should be 100-
200VAC
. If it is, remove the collimator and observe
filament brilliance. If voltage is around 240VAC,
there is an opening in the filament circuit.
Procedure: Checking Filament Circuit
A.
Safety First:
For this procedure remove Leads
P1 and P2 from the High Voltage Transformer.
B. Remove the Cathode cable from the X-ray
Tube and place Voltmeter probes from C to
the filament not working. Turn on Control and
depress Prep. If 16VAC is present circuit is ok.
Replace the X-ray Tube.
C. If 16VAC is not present the Cathode High Voltage
Cable may be OPEN, a ring connector on the
Cathode Well inside the High Voltage Transformer
may be OPEN or the Ring Connector
XC
to
XS
or
XC
to
XL
is loose from the control filament
circuit to the primary filament transformer.
In the event the cathode cable is open, substitute
the anode cable in its place. Using the cathode
cable with an open lead on the anode side
should not affect its use.
EXPECTED VOLTAGE MEASUREMENTS WHEN A
SHORT CIRCUIT EXISTS.
2.
Measure voltage from
XC
to
XS
or
XC
to
XL
. With
Prep Switch depressed
voltage should be 100 –
200 VAC
. If it is, remove the collimator and observe
filament brilliance.
If voltage is 60 – 70 VAC
, this
is caused by a SHORT in the Transformer Filament
Cathode Receptacle. Post
C
is shorted to
S,
or Post
C
is shorted to
L.
In any case the transformer lid
will have to be removed and the ring connectors on
those Posts will have to be separated.
Transformer P1
or
P2 Ring
Terminals
may be OPEN. May
have been broken loose when
tightening. Hold cables firmly
when tightening
Remove
P1
and
P2 Primary Cables
. Measure resistance of
Primary. Should be approximately
0.7 Ohms
. Make sure either
P1
or
P2
is not shorted to ground. If Primary reads OPEN,
remove top of Transformer from the Tank. Repair and re-solder
P1
or
P2 Ring Terminals
and re-install.
Both Rectifiers are OPEN
on
either anode or cathode side.
Lead from sticks on Anode
or Cathode side to Cable
Wells on the transformer have
opened.
The High Voltage Generator can be carefully lifted out of the
tank and all terminals and wires should be checked to establish
that there are no breaks in them. Check both High Voltage
Output Windings. Resistance should be approximately
8000
ohms
. Primary
P1
and
P2
resistance should be
.7 ohms
. In
this case replace
rectifier board
.
