Operating the Ignition Switch
1. Turn the ignition key to the Start position
(Figure 15). When the engines starts, release the key.
Important:
Do not engage starter for more
than 5 seconds at a time. If the engine fails
to start allow a 15 second cool-down period
between attempts. Failure to follow these
instructions can burn out the starter motor.
Note:
Additional starting cycles may be required
when starting the engine for the first time after the
fuel system has been without fuel completely.

Starting the Engine
1. Sit down on the seat (Figure 16).
2. Move the motion controls outward to the neutral
lock position (Figure 16).
3. Set the parking brake (Figure 16); refer to Setting
the Parking Brake.
4. Move the blade control switch (PTO) to the Off
position (Figure 16).
5. Move the throttle lever to Choke before starting
a cold engine.
Note:
A warm or hot engine may not require
choking.
