Chapter 3
Benchtop (Local Mode) Tutorial
5) Check that the value displayed is correct for the motor connected to channel 1.
For example, the ZST range of stepper motor actuators have 3072 microsteps per
revolution, a 76:1 reduction ratio gearbox and a 0.5mm pitch lead screw.
This results in a calibration constant of:
3072 x 76 x 2 = 466944 (this is the factory set default value).
6) Repeat items 2) to 5) for channel 2.
See Chapter 5 for further details on channel calibration.
3.3
Homing The Motors
Homing the motors moves the actuator to the home limit switch and resets the internal
position counters to zero. The limit switches provide a fixed datum that can be found
after the system has been powered up.
1) Press the
key until the channel 1 led is lit.
2) Press the
key repeatedly to select the ‘Home’ mode for channel 1.
3) Press the
key until the channel 2 led is lit.
4) Press the
key to select the ‘Home’ mode for channel 2.
5) Press the
key until both channel leds are lit.
6) Press the
key.
The display briefly shows ‘
Hmove 1 Hmove 2
’ to indicate that a home move is
being performed on both channels.
.
After the homing sequence is complete, notice how the displayed position for both
channels reads 000.000, i.e the home position. Note. If the actuators are far from
the Home limit switch, the home process can take a significant time.
See Appendix D, Section D.2.2. for an explanation of the homing process.
