QUICK SETUP
When purchased as a pair the AutoWAVE Data Transceivers are shipped from the factory
configured to operate together in Point-to-Multipoint applications. The transceivers are preset for
high speed data communications and to communicate only with each other.
AutoWAVE transceivers are designed to connect directly to the CHIT cables supplied for use with
Thermo Scientific flow computers, (SuperFlo, AutoMATE, & AutoPILOT). AutoWAVE will
potentially operate in virtually any environment where RS-232 data communications occur. The
transceiver functions as a 9 pin null modem cable. If AutoWAVE is to be used in an application
where a null modem cable us used (such as communication between two computers), then
AutoWAVE can be connected directly. If AutoWAVE is to be used to replace a straight-through
RS-232 cable, then a null modem cable must be placed between the transceiver and the DCE
instrument to which it is connected.
To establish communications between a pair of AutoWAVE Transceivers just received from the
factory:
1. Set the baud rate on each transceiver to match the baud rate of the instrument to which it is
attached, see section 3 (Tuning Transceiver Performance). Please note that when you are setting the
transceiver’s baud rate you are setting its RS232 data rate, which must match the rate for the
instrument to which it is attached. This in turn means that the baud rate does not have to be on the
same setting for the two transceivers.
2. Verify that the RS-232 connector on the cable supplied will fit the interface on the instrument
to which it is being connected. All Thermo Scientific Chit cables should meet this requirement
3. Attach the antennas or antenna cables, as needed, insuring they are snug and properly seated.
Attach the RS-232 cables to each radio and the associated device ports.
4. Insure that fresh batteries are installed or that a power source, (5-15 Vdc), is connected.
Turn on the radios and they should establish a communications link with each other. Setup is
complete and you can begin communicating.
